There are both well-known and uncharted trails leading to the historical and cultural sites, where you can enjoy the incredible beauty of Debed Canyon. Some of these trails are currently becoming the main tourist spots, while others are still “vailed”.

Many streets dedicated to something specific can be found in every corner of the world, but few of us know that here, in Vanadzor we have a whole forest district that carefully hides many Soviet Camps.

Vanadzor is the third largest city in Armenia. Its neoclassical architecture set against the green mountains surrounding the city creates its own unique atmosphere. Today, the city is rapidly developing, becoming one of Armenia’s educational, cultural, and tourism centers.

In the north of Armenia, as if a crawling dragon, stretches the mysterious Debed canyon. Its sheer cliffs stand tall as guardians protecting the centuries-old monasteries, the hard-working people, the history and old traditions, and the haunting local tales and legends, each a precious gem in its own.

Every corner of Armenia has its specific cuisine that is developed through centuries and reflects old traditions and local seasonal goods. It is the diverse nature and herbs of Debed canyon that give local cuisine its unique flavor. Use of various greens, berries, and dairy products is common to this area.

If you ever decide to experience Armenia in a very unique way, make sure to get on a bicycle and explore the country on two wheels. Cycling around Armenia was an adventure we were yet to try, so when we got ourselves new bicycles, we decided to cycle to one of Armenia’s treasure troves, the canyon of Debed.

Debed canyon is one of most popular travel destinations in Armenia. The dense forests covering the slopes of the canyon hide some of the finest examples of Armenia’s cultural and religious heritage, but these forests are also full of natural monuments, revered by locals as sacred to a comparable degree.

UNESCO World Heritage sites, fine examples of medieval Armenian architecture, stunning hiking trails, unique museums, even rafting… Debed canyon has it all for a must-visit travel destination. Here’s some of the awesome things you should definitely do when visiting the area.

The junction where the road to the village of Dsegh starts from looked desolate when we got off the truck we hitchhiked from the city of Vanadzor. As the vehicle drove away, we were left on our own. We looked around, but there were no signs of approaching cars, which meant we were stuck.
